1. Agreement
These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of the Halo iOS app, related extensions/widgets, and our website (together, “Halo”). By downloading, accessing, or using Halo, you agree to these Terms and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use Halo.
2. Who may use Halo
Halo is intended for parents and guardians who manage a family. You must be legally able to enter a binding agreement. If you set up a child profile, you represent that you are the parent/guardian (or have authority) for that child and that you are responsible for the child’s use of Halo and any linked social platforms.
3. What Halo does
Halo helps families manage safer social-media use by:
- Providing filtered in-app experiences for selected social platforms based on parent-chosen settings.
- Optionally using Apple Screen Time / Family Controls features to pause selected native apps when a parent turns protection on.
- Allowing parents to fully block supported apps and, where the product supports it, other apps on a child’s device.
- Offering family insights / Analytics about high-level Halo usage where the product and subscription allow.
- Offering Home Screen widgets and icon/Shortcuts helpers so children can open filtered apps quickly, typically as Halo Pro features on a paired child’s device.
Halo is a parental-control and filtering tool. It is not a substitute for parenting, supervision, or the safety tools provided by social platforms themselves. Filters, blocks, schedules, and related protections may not catch every risk and may change if third-party apps or web experiences change.
4. Accounts and family setup
- Parents typically sign in with Sign in with Apple and may set a parent PIN and/or use Face ID to protect settings.
- You are responsible for keeping your Apple ID, device unlock methods, and Halo parent PIN secure.
- Family pairing codes and membership are for your household. Do not share invite codes with people who should not control or join your family.
- Children use Halo as part of a parent-managed family after pairing.
5. Social platforms and third-party content
Halo may open Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, Facebook, Reddit, Snapchat (when offered), and other services in an in-app browser or related system browser surfaces. Those platforms are owned and operated by third parties. When you or your child use them:
- Sign-in happens on the platform’s own pages. Halo does not ask for those passwords in a Halo form.
- Content, accounts, and activity on those platforms are subject to each platform’s terms and privacy policies.
- Halo does not control third-party content, availability, account enforcement, or changes those platforms make.
6. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Misuse Halo to harass, harm, or unlawfully monitor anyone.
- Attempt to bypass, reverse engineer, or interfere with Halo’s protections, security, or family controls (except as allowed by law).
- Use Halo for any unlawful purpose.
- Misrepresent your identity or authority over a child’s device or account.
7. Subscriptions and purchases (Halo Pro)
Some features may require a paid subscription (“Halo Pro”) purchased through the Apple App Store. Examples of Pro features may include Analytics, Home Screen widgets/icons, and other features labeled as Pro in the app.
Billing, renewals, cancellations, and refunds for App Store purchases are handled by Apple under Apple’s terms. Manage or cancel subscriptions in your Apple ID / App Store settings.
Where the product supports it, Halo Pro is shared at the family level: one active subscription can unlock Pro features for parents and paired children in that Halo family. Pro status may sync through Halo’s family sync systems. Widgets and related surfaces may require Pro to be active on that family before they unlock on a child’s device.
8. Device permissions and measurement tools
Certain features require iOS permissions (for example Screen Time / Family Controls, Face ID, camera, microphone, photo library access, or App Tracking Transparency). If you deny or later revoke a permission, related features may not work.
We may use third-party tools as described in our Privacy Policy, including:
- Meta for advertising/install measurement; and
- Google Firebase for product analytics and limited account/ops records.
Advertising measurement is not required for core parental-control features.
9. Disclaimer of warranties
Halo is provided “as is” and “as available.” To the maximum extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not guarantee that filters, blocks, Screen Time protections, Analytics, or widgets will catch every risk, work on every device/OS version, or remain compatible if third-party apps, websites, or Apple APIs change.
10. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Halo and its operator will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of data, profits, or goodwill, arising from your use of Halo. Our total liability for any claim relating to Halo will not exceed the greater of (a) the amounts you paid us for Halo Pro in the 12 months before the claim or (b) USD $50, if no such payment applies. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations; in those places, our liability is limited to the fullest extent allowed.
11. Indemnity
You agree to defend and hold harmless Halo and its operator from claims arising out of your misuse of Halo, your violation of these Terms, or your management of a child’s device/accounts, except to the extent caused by our willful misconduct.
12. Termination
You may stop using Halo at any time by deleting the app and/or cancelling subscriptions through Apple. We may suspend or terminate access if you violate these Terms or if we discontinue Halo. Provisions that by nature should survive (including disclaimers, limitations, and indemnity) will survive termination.
13. Changes
We may update these Terms from time to time. We will update the “Last updated” date and may provide notice in the app or on the website. Continued use after changes means you accept the updated Terms.
14. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the United States and the state where Hudson Ferreira principally operates Halo, without regard to conflict-of-law rules, unless applicable consumer law in your place of residence requires otherwise.
